Flying season is almost here!
SPEKTRUM RADIO USERS:
Those using the DX series of Spektrum radios,
check out this site for programming help and tips.
This will also be helpful for the replacement NX line.
Also, a thread on RC Groups that covers the DX line of radios, is an awesome tool. Spektrum Dev Team Member Andy Kunz is there most any day, any time.
Here is an index of some great information from that thread.

About us.
In the Mid-1980's, several area residents became active in building and flying radio controlled (RC) model airplanes. Some were rekindling knowledge and interests from earlier years while some were just beginners. Flying was primarily done at the grass strip airport adjacent to Highway 69 north of Osceola. On May 9th, 1989 these modelers organized the Osceola Prop Busters model airplane club and received a charter from the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). The AMA is a world-class association of modelers organized for the purpose of promotion, development, education and advancement of modeling activities. Once the club was chartered the members were able to obtain the permission of the Osceola City Council to fly off the paved runway of the new airport east of Osceola.
Over the years some of our members have moved away from Osceola, but happily,
others have moved here who share our interest in the hobby. Presently the club has
13 members. Monthly meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month, 7 p.m., at the Osceola airport. We try to hold meetings at our West Field, weather permitting, so that we may also fly together. Over the years, the Osceola Airport has become so busy that full size aircraft tend to take up most of the time we are there and so if many show up we don’t get many flights in.
Flying is available anytime a member wishes. We also try to get members together at least twice a week to “group fly”. All members are required to have individual memberships in the AMA which, among other benefits, provides members with liability insurance. Membership fees in the AMA are: Free for a youth membership (under age 19), $75 for an open membership, and $65 for a senior membership (65 or over), and additional family members can join for just $38. Prop Busters membership fees are $25 per year.
While costs vary, a beginner should expect to spend approximately $350 for the plane,
engine, radio, and a few basic things to get started in the hobby. This may sound like a
lot, but with patience, care, and some good luck this investment can last a long time.
Several members are flying planes 10 to 15 years old or older.
We also enjoy flying from a field we have done many improvements on, such as an artificial runway as well as a mowed grass runway. There you can fly by yourself, if you so wish. Model planes, like any machine, can be dangerous if not used properly. But with care and some common sense they are perfectly safe and wonderfully fun to fly.
Safety is a primary concern of the Prop Busters. The club owns a radio receiver to
monitor full-scale aircraft around the airport. The models are not allowed in the air
when a full-scale aircraft is in the area for take-off or landing. In order to fly, there must
be at least two members present with one monitoring the radio and acting as a spotter.
We encourage anyone interested in learning more about RC planes or in joining our
club to contact any club member, visit our website, Facebook page, or call our president, Dell Shannon at 641-414-3837.
Our flying site, West Field, has a mat runway, and other amenities. It has undergone a major transformation over the last several years into a very nice facility for us to fly from. We still have a grass runway on the far side of the mat runway, so we can accommodate models of all sizes. For a small club, we have accomplished a great many of things, and are proud of those accomplishments. Come join us and experience one of the greatest hobbies, as its a hobby for one person or a family hobby.
We as a club, want to adapt to the changes that are
taking place in the hobby, and keep up with today's enthusiast.
To do so, we want to make our facilities something everyone would
want to and can use.
Please note, that in order to fly at our fields, you must be a club member, or be a guest of a club member (club member must be present) and MUST have AMA membership. For more information, please see the Club Rules PDF on the Newsletter / Membership Page.
